Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 August 2026
Equalus (the “app”) is provided by Madwilliker, LLC (“Madwilliker,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), an iPhone app that helps couples and households share the work of running a home fairly. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how it is used, and the choices you have.
We designed Equalus to collect as little as possible. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not track your behaviour for advertising.
1. Information we collect
Account & identity
When you first open Equalus, we create an anonymous account for your device using Firebase Authentication so your data can sync. You can optionally add an email address and password to secure and recover your account. If you do, we store that email address and authentication credentials through Firebase Authentication.
Information you provide
- Profile: your name and a personal accent colour.
- Household: a household name you choose.
- Tasks: task titles, categories, notes, subtasks, schedules and recurrence, whether a task is shared or assigned, and the effort rating (emotional weight) you assign.
- Completion history: a record of who completed a task and when.
- Partner invitations: if you invite a partner, we process the invitee’s email address (and optionally their name) to send the invitation and create a secure, time-limited invite link.
Purchases & subscriptions
If you buy a subscription or other in-app purchase, the transaction is processed by Apple; we do not receive or store your full payment card details. To manage your entitlements, we process purchase-related information such as your subscription status, product identifiers, purchase and renewal dates, and an app-specific purchase identifier through our subscription provider, RevenueCat.
Analytics & usage data
To understand how the app is used and to improve it, we process product-analytics data through PostHog. This includes app events and interactions (such as screens viewed and features used), a randomly generated analytics identifier, and technical details like device type, operating-system version, app version, and approximate, IP-derived region. We use analytics to improve the product, not to serve advertising. Equalus does not include third-party advertising SDKs and we do not sell your data or build advertising profiles about you. Where required, we ask for your consent before enabling analytics, and you can opt out at any time (see “Your rights & choices” below).
Information collected automatically
To operate the app, our backend processes basic technical data such as your anonymous account identifier and timestamps for records you create.
2. How we use information
- To create and sync your household so you and your partner see the same tasks and balance.
- To calculate your fair-share balance, Load Units, and insights.
- To send partner invitations by email at your request.
- To provide account security and recovery when you add an email and password.
- To process and manage subscriptions and in-app purchases, and to unlock the features they include.
- To understand usage and improve the app through product analytics.
- To maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the reliability of the service.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. How data is shared within a household
Equalus is built for two people to collaborate. When you join a household, the other member of that household can see the household’s shared content — including tasks, effort ratings, completion history, your name and accent colour, and the balance between you. Please only add information you are comfortable sharing with your partner.
We do not share your personal information with anyone outside your household except the service providers described below, or where required by law.
4. Service providers
We rely on a small number of trusted providers who process data on our behalf:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore database, and Cloud Functions) — stores and syncs your account and household data. See Google’s Firebase Privacy and Security information.
- Resend — delivers partner invitation emails on our behalf. Only the invitation email address and message content are processed for this purpose. See Resend’s Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat — manages subscriptions and in-app purchases and stores purchase status on our behalf. See RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
- PostHog — provides product analytics so we can understand usage and improve the app. See PostHog’s Privacy Policy.
- Apple — processes in-app purchase payments and, if the app is distributed through the App Store, download and purchase information under Apple’s privacy policy.
These providers are contractually bound to protect your information and use it only to provide their services to us.
5. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on these legal bases:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the app’s core features you request, including processing and managing any subscription or in-app purchase.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the service secure, reliable, and functioning.
- Consent — for example, when you ask us to email an invitation to your partner, and, where required, before we enable product analytics. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation — where processing is necessary to comply with the law.
6. Data retention
We keep your household and account data for as long as your account is active so the app works across your devices. Pending partner invitations expire automatically (typically after 7 days). When you ask us to delete your account or household, we remove the associated data from our active systems, subject to reasonable backup and legal-retention periods.
7. Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:
- Edit your profile, household, and tasks directly in the app.
- Leave or delete a household from the app’s settings.
- Opt out of product analytics from the app’s settings at any time.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple ID in the App Store or device Settings.
- Contact us at support@equalus.app to request access to, or deletion of, your data.
We will respond to verified requests as required by applicable law. We do not sell personal information and do not “share” it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
8. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored using Google Firebase’s managed, encrypted infrastructure. Access to household data is restricted to members of that household through authentication and security rules. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.
9. Children
Equalus is intended for adults managing a household and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can remove it.
10. International transfers
Our service providers may process and store data on servers located outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for these transfers.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the app.
